Kolkata Knight Riders, who are yet to confirm their spot for playoffs, managed to keep down Sunrisers Hyderabad to 172/9 in their first innings. SRH have already confirmed their place at the Wankhede in the first Qualifier batted first at their home ground. With a score of 190 being a possibility at one time, KKR bowlers did well to contain SRH to a gettable total. A win for Kolkata takes them through to the playoffs.

Shikhar Dhawan

Earlier in the night, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson won the toss and surprisingly chose to bat first. He wanted to keep KKR under pressure in the chase. SRH did have changes in their playing XI as they brought in Carlos Brathwaite and Bhuvneshwar Kumar back. Alex Hales was dropped and so was Basil Thampi.

Hyderabad began with a fresh opening pair tonight in the absence of Alex Hales. They opened with the keeper-batsman Sreevats Goswami. Dhawan and Goswami did more than good to give the team a solid platform to launch from. Goswami scored 39(26) and when he got out team already 79 runs on the board in first 8 overs.

Williamson’s whirlwind innings was put to a halt by Searles.

Shikhar Dhawan was not at his fluent best as he played a decently paced knock. He went back for 50 from 39 balls. Captain Williamson took over the responsibility of quick scoring and following the rich vein of form he is in, he scored a fast 36 from 17 balls that included three sixes. The innings fell flat once the skipper was gone.

In the last five overs, SRH scored only 31 runs and lost seven wickets. Prasidh Krishna took three wickets in his last over and ended with the figures of 4/30 in his spell. Kolkata needs 173 runs to win.
