The hype for IPL 2025 is mounting, with the season scheduled to start on March 22, with some of the world’s finest cricketers. Among the most awaited comebacks this season is that of Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who is returning to competitive cricket after a long injury break. Marsh had strained his back while experiencing dysfunction in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India and was not only out of the business end but also the recently played Champions Trophy.
Marsh, however, has been cleared to play again, but there’s a big catch here—he can play only as a specialist batter. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won’t be able to deploy his seam bowling during the next season of IPL since medical experts have not allowed him to bowl until he goes through a complete process of rehabilitation.
In spite of this drawback, his batting will certainly fortify LSG, considering he has the capacity to pick up the pace of scoring in middle overs. In a recent turn of events, Mitchell Marsh will report to the LSG camp in Lucknow on March 18.

There, he will be working with former Australia head coach Justin Langer, who is currently the head coach of LSG. The coaching arrangement of the team also involves Indian legend Zaheer Khan, so Mitchell Marsh will have elite guidance as he settles back into professional cricket.

Marsh has played in the IPL since 2009, representing various franchises through the years, such as Deccan Chargers, Pune Warriors India, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rising Pune Supergiant. LSG is his sixth franchise in the tournament. In 42 IPL games, he has scored 665 runs and picked 37 wickets, demonstrating his all-round capabilities.

Lucknow Super Giants will launch their IPL 2025 league campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 24 at Visakhapatnam. The first home match for LSG at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow will be against the Punjab Kings on April 1. Whether Marsh will rejoin as a bowler or not is in doubt, but his batting abilities will be of vital importance for LSG in their title race.
