Mithali Raj Creates A Record In T20Is

The Indian woman cricketer Mithali Raj has added another memorable feather into her already illustrious cap as she became the first Indian cricketer and seventh overall to surpass the milestone of 2000 runs in women’s T20Is, on Thursday.

During India’s seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup, Mithali played a match-winning knock of 33-ball 23 and during the course of her innings, she crossed the 2000-run mark in the shortest format of the game.

Outclassed in their last game by Bangladesh, the women in blue registered a dominating seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka and keep their hopes alive for a final berth in the Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur. The Indian team came up with n improved performance with left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht (2/20) snapping two wickets and effecting two run-outs, while Jhulan Goswami (1/20), Anuja Patil (1/19) and Poonam Yadav (1/23) taking one wicket each to restrict Sri Lanka to 107 for 7.

Currently, in the Asia Cup, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh currently have six points each from four games. But, India is leading the standings with a net run-rate of +2.709.

Mithali has joined a very illustrious pool of cricketers who have scored more than 2000 runs in T20Is and she now stands at seventh spot in the list of most runs scored in this format.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. will have to beat arch-rivals Pakistan in their must-win last game on Saturday to make it to the finals.
