“Definitely, the selectors will look at the performance because playing after a long gap is not that easy, match practice is really important and it does not matter how big a player you are, you have to play some matches. Practicing and playing matches are two different things,” Azharuddin said.

fans in India were excited to see MS Dhoni return to competitive cricket. The Indian wicket-keeper last played cricket during India’s semi-final loss to New Zealand in the World Cup 2019 in England. He was set to return in action with IPL 2020. However,  the IPL has been postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic outbreak of the Corona Virus.

Earlier, former cricketer and current Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri spoke on how  Dhoni will have to perform well in the IPL to get his place back in the team, However, with the IPL being suspended indefinitely, MS Dhoni will have to figure another way if he wants to be back in the Indian team setup.

In such a scenario, what Azharuddin points out seems valid. “Dhoni can explain better than me about what he wants and it will be his personal decision. The situation is not good and that is why IPL is not taking place and I feel it will take some time to get things sorted but for Dhoni, it is his personal decision,” the former India skipper added.
