Following their stellar performances in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023, India is gearing up for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 with a focus on sustaining their winning momentum. As discussions swirl around the leadership role for the Men in Blue in the marquee T20 tournament, many voices have advocated for the continued captaincy of veteran batsman Rohit Sharma.

Among those supporting this stance is former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif, who believes that India needs the skipper Rohit more than just the batter Rohit.

Kaif commended Rohit Sharma for his exceptional performances in the ODI World Cup 2023 and the strategic decisions he made throughout the tournament. Expressing his viewpoint, Kaif emphasized the leadership qualities that Rohit brings to the table and stressed the significance of his experience in guiding the team in T20s.

“You need skipper Rohit more than batter Rohit to lead the team in T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma has to be there because he has got the leadership quality,” stated Mohammed Kaif, as quoted by Times of India.

He added, “The way he led in the 50-over World Cup, he has done a fantastic job as a leader. India will need his experience in T20s too. Rohit, as a skipper and as a batter, did a fantastic job, which India will need in T20s as well.”

Meanwhile, India is poised for a challenging tour of South Africa, featuring three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Test matches. Notably, the leadership dynamics will witness three different skippers across formats during the South Africa tour, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the T20I side, KL Rahul captaining the ODI team, and Rohit Sharma taking charge of the Test team.
