In the first ODI of the three-match series between India and West Indies at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahemdabad, the Indian limited-overs skipper, Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first citing the chances of a dew. The Indian bowling is rather inexperienced and without their regular attack, but Mohammed Siraj drew the first blood in the 3rd over of the innings.
Shai Hope was batting on 8 in 9 balls and he has smashed a couple of boundaries on consecutive deliveries of Mohammed Siraj. In the 3rd over of the innings, being bowled by Siraj, Hope smacked two back-to-back fours on the 2nd and 3rd deliveries of the over. Both these deliveries were outswingers by Siraj but he didn’t get the expected movement, as Hope smacked these fours on the off-side.

On the 4th delivery, however, Mohammed Siraj pitched the 4th delivery on the good length again but this time cunningly with a scrambled seam. The Windies opener looked overconfident after smashing the boundaries and as a result, Hope decided to got for an extra cover drive on the ball that looked like going away from the body expecting an away-swinger.
The ball however cut back in off the seam, took Hope’s bat’s inside edge, and dislodged the middle and leg stump. This was a smart move by Mohammed Siraj, bowling consecutive outswingers and following it up with a scrambled seam ball without changing the length.

Indian bowlers have struggled to pick up wickets in the first powerplay in the ODIs since 2019, but Mohammed Siraj managed to churn out the first blow in the 3rd over itself and burst out in his Cristiano Ronaldo’s “Siuu” celebration.
