“Domestic political issues” may prevent Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi from attending the upcoming ICC Executive Board meeting in Dubai, where the BCCI is expected to raise the matter of the Asia Cup trophy still not being presented to Team India. The four-day ICC meeting, which began on Tuesday, was set to see a face-off between the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards after the trophy controversy erupted in September.

Naqvi, who also serves as the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), had reportedly refused to hand over the Asia Cup trophy to the Indian players following their victory, due to his previous anti-India remarks. The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, declined to accept the trophy from him during the post-match ceremony.
Sources within the PCB revealed that Naqvi’s absence from the ICC meet could be due to “domestic political responsibilities.” Apart from his cricketing role, he currently serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, and his political obligations may restrict his travel to Dubai.

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup trophy remains locked inside the ACC headquarters in Dubai, even though the final concluded over a month ago. Naqvi reportedly ordered that the silverware not be moved without his approval. The BCCI, in an official letter, requested that the trophy be sent to Mumbai.

However, Naqvi has insisted that he will personally hand it over to a BCCI representative and an Indian player during a function in Dubai on November 10. With tensions simmering between the two cricket boards, Naqvi’s potential absence from the ICC meeting adds yet another twist to the ongoing trophy standoff between India and Pakistan.
