For a batting team to get going from the word go in an IPL (T20) match is more of a requirement than a luxury. Since an innings in the format lasts for 20 overs, a batsman, especially a top-order one, cannot afford to spend time in the name of getting his eye in. This is what brings all the importance to the powerplay in the T20 format.

Batsmen tend to go all out in this phase of the innings because it gives them a head-start for what lies ahead. Scoring runs against the new ball during the fielding restriction overs gives an added advantage to any team.

Here is the list of Top Five totals which have been scored in the powerplay in the IPL:

1. 105-0 (Kolkata Knight Riders) –

During the 46th match of IPL 2017 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders at Bengaluru, KKR registered the highest score ever in the powerplay in the IPL. Chasing a target of 159 runs, Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine went bonkers against the Challengers’ bowling attack. In the process, Narine scored the fastest ever (off 15 balls) IPL half-century. In the first six overs, KKR had scored 105-0. Lynn (49*) and Narine (54*) had caused damage to the home team.
