MS Dhoni has once again reaffirmed his deep-rooted bond with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), making it clear that his association with the franchise is far from over. Speaking at a private event in Chennai, the legendary former India captain light-heartedly hinted at staying connected with CSK for the “next 15–20 years,” much to the delight of fans, while clarifying he won’t be playing for that long.

Dhoni, who has been the face of CSK since the IPL’s inception in 2008, returned to the captaincy in the 2025 season after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to an elbow injury. Despite Dhoni’s leadership and presence, the campaign turned out to be CSK’s worst ever.
The five-time champions ended at the bottom of the table for the first time, managing only four wins in 14 matches. While many speculated that the 44-year-old might finally retire after IPL 2024 due to lingering injury concerns, Dhoni’s recent appearances and commitment suggest he isn’t stepping away just yet. His improved fitness and passion for the team remain evident, and he also hinted at Gaikwad returning as captain in the future.

“Me and CSK, we are together. Even for the next 15–20 years,” MS Dhoni said, drawing massive cheers. “I hope they don’t think I’ll be playing that long! But I’ll always be around in some role.”

Dhoni also addressed CSK’s poor performance this season. At another event, he admitted that the team has struggled over the last couple of years but emphasised the importance of learning from setbacks.
“We’ve not been up to the mark. But what matters is identifying what went wrong. That was the question we had last year too,” he reflected.
