The Income Tax Department collected around ₹20,000 crore from Bihar and Jharkhand in the 2025-26 financial year, according to a senior official. Among individual taxpayers across both states, former India captain MS Dhoni stood out as the largest contributor, once again underscoring his immense stature both on and off the field.

Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for Bihar and Jharkhand, Dr D. Sudhakara Rao, said nearly ₹12,000 crore of the total came from Jharkhand alone. He also noted that close to 70 per cent of the overall collection was generated through tax deducted at source, or TDS, reflecting the strong role of salaried income and formal tax compliance in the region.

Dhoni’s off-field prominence comes at a time when his on-field future remains a key talking point in IPL 2026. Chennai Super Kings have already played 10 matches this season, but MS Dhoni is yet to feature for the five-time champions after suffering a calf strain ahead of the campaign. Although CSK have continued to share training visuals of him batting, wicketkeeping and even bowling in the nets, his return date remains uncertain.

There have also been occasions when MS Dhoni has stayed away from away-game travel to avoid unnecessary distractions. CSK batting coach Mike Hussey recently explained that Dhoni prefers to keep the focus on the team and does not want the spotlight around him to overshadow the side’s preparations.
