Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one with the most sorted brain in the cricketing fraternity. His decisions on the cricket field have often raised some eyebrows, but those decisions hardly backfire. Dhoni always stays calm on the cricket field and never lose his cool. Also, he is never seen shouting or screaming on his teammates for any mistake.

However, even the toughest mind like Dhoni went through a bad phase when his Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was banned for two years from participating in the league. This all was an outcome of the spot-fixing scandal occurred during IPL 2013. Chennai was suspended for two years along with Rajasthan Royals, whose players were allegedly involved in spot-fixing.

Recently, Dhoni revealed the whole saga on a docu-drama ‘Roar of the Lion’, which was aired on Hotstar on March 20. This documentary covers the whole drama behind CSK’s two-year suspension and their comeback in 2018, where they lift the IPL title after seven years.

In the episode ‘What did we do wrong?’ of ‘Roar of the Lion’, Dhoni quoted “2013 was the most difficult phase in my life; I was never depressed as much as I was then. The closest was the 2007 World Cup when we lost in the group stages.”

Though, he added that the reason for the disappointment in 2007 was still related to cricket. He said that they already knew a harsh punishment was on the cards over the fixing episode.

Dhoni feels match-fixing is a bigger crime than murder. He revealed the role of Gurunath Meiyappan, then BCCI chief N Srinivasan’s son-in-law, in the franchise. Meiyappan was seen in the CSK dug out most often and he was reportedly used to leak the team news, which brought all the troubles for CSK.

“Initially when Guru’s name came up, whatever said and done, he was part of the team. In what capacity, that is debatable. Was he the owner? Team Principal? Team Motivator? What exactly was his role? I don’t think anybody from the franchise side introduced Guru to the team as, you know, he’s the owner. We all knew him as the son-in-law,” MS Dhoni said about Meiyappan in the documentary.
