Recently India’s former captain MS Dhoni- a man no stranger to the headlines, has stolen the coverage again- this time not in a cricket match but a badminton game. A video of Dhoni hitting a powerful smash during a friendly badminton game has gone viral on social media, causing people to talk about his fitness and the possibility that he might be back in the IPL 2025 season.

Although 43 years old, Dhoni’s possible participation in the Indian Premier League is still a big question mark. However, his inaction in the last IPL tournament doesn’t mean he is going to quit cricket anytime soon as the latest appearances have been enough to keep the supporters entertained.

The CSK superstar has been largely away from the limelight after his international career ended, yet events such as this continue to keep his fans hyped up. In the short clip that went viral, Dhoni showed his sports proficiency, performing an outstanding jump smash, and therefore, he was recognized as a resilient player again.

Just as he loves any other sports, Dhoni is quite fond of tennis and has previously been seen playing the sport in the Ranchi city, and also, golfing with friends in the US. His enthusiasm for many sports is well-known and this recent badminton outing is not an exception.

MS Dhoni’s fitness is a subject of much speculation, especially in the light of his age and cricket’s physical demands. Despite the fact that he was struggling with a knee injury during IPL 2023, his recent display on the badminton court suggests that he is in good condition and that he has fully recovered.

Besides that, the new IPL rules regarding uncapped players and the retention policies in the 2025 mega auction might be the deciding factors for Dhoni.

The decision of whether to retain the new concept or not is not yet made by the franchises and management and they still have much time to decide. Once all is clear, that’s when we will take a stance. Finally, we’ll take what’s the best course for CSK,” Dhoni said recently at the event.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanath also supported this view and pointed out that the rule changes will be at the discretion of the BCCI, and the franchise will accordingly adopt the approach required.
