MS Dhoni is India’s most admired sportsperson

Indian wicketkeeper and former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, famously known as MS Dhoni, has been elected as India’s most admired sportsperson.

In the latest annual study by yougov.co.uk., the 37-year-old Indian cricketer is the second most admired sportsperson in India. Only the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is ahead in this list.

In this list, Dhoni not only beat every Indian sportsman, including the cricket legendary Sachin Tendulkar, he also beat every Indian celebrity, except the present PM. While Modi got an admiration score of 11.90%, Dhoni had an admiration score of 7.70%.

Every year, this website conducts the world’s most admired people. The latest one was conducted earlier this year.

Dhoni is the only captain to win three different ICC tournaments – 2007 ICC World T20, 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Not only as an Indian, Dhoni is one of the most successful captains, batsmen and wicketkeepers in the world cricket. Dhoni is especially famous as one of the most successful finishers in the cricket history.

After making an international cricket debut in December 2004, Dhoni has played 90 Tests, 321 ODIs and 93 T20Is where he has broken many records. The right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman has scored 16,409 runs in international cricket career and also has made a total of 788 dismissals in the international career as a wicketkeeper.

Though he has retired from the Test cricket in 2014 and also has given up his international cricket captaincy in 2016, he is still playing the limited-overs international crickets.

The survey has revealed that the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Indian present cricket team skipper Virat Kohli are ranked at sixth and eighth respectively in the list of the most admired persons in India. They are the only three cricketers in the top 10 list of most admired men in India.
