Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s fan base is truly global, transcending boundaries of age, region, religion, and even reason. The legendary former Indian captain, who led India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 50-over World Cup, has managed to stay largely away from social media, despite having a massive following.
In a recent interview, Dhoni opened up about his perspective on social media and the advice he received over the years from his managers. He recalled how, as Twitter (now X) gained popularity and Instagram emerged, his managers urged him to use these platforms to build his public image.

However, MS Dhoni remained firm in his stance. “I have never been a big fan of social media,” he said. “All the managers kept telling me to use social media for PR, to build my brand. But I always told them the same thing – if I play good cricket, I don’t need PR.”
Beyond his thoughts on social media, Dhoni also shared a humorous insight into his friendship with former teammate Suresh Raina. When asked about bike rides, Dhoni revealed why he would never choose Raina as a riding companion, especially if a truck is involved.
“In a motorcycle, whether it’s your fault or not, you’ll get hurt if there’s an accident, and athletes are particularly concerned about protecting their joints, like knees and elbows,” MS Dhoni explained. “Raina, on the other hand, gets jittery when he sees a truck coming, and starts moving around. I would never choose him for a bike ride.”

Despite his age, Dhoni will continue to play in the Indian Premier League, as Chennai Super Kings retained him for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. At 43, he will once again lead the team, proving that age is just a number for this cricketing icon.
