The 2023 season of IPL is expected to be the last outing of the former Indian skipper in the league, and CSK will be looking to give him the fifth title win. In his 234 IPL appearances so far, Dhoni has amassed 4978 runs with an average of 39.2, leading Chennai to the title four times in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021.

CSK also has the most appearances in IPL finals, ending the runners-up in the season 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019. However, the heavyweights of the tournament didn’t have a great outing last year as they finished in ninth position as managed to win just four games under their belt.

Dhoni got back to leading the franchise despite passing the baton to Ravindra Jadeja for 2022. However, MSD had to take over the charge again after a series of losses for Chennai in the first half of the season. Meanwhile, Jadeja was forced out of the tournament mid-way due to an injury to his rib cage.

Well, as CSK has roped in Ben Stokes for a big amount of INR 16.25 crores at the 2023 auction, it is also rumored that the English all-rounder could replace Dhoni as the skipper after his retirement. Apart from Stokes, the franchise has also added Ajinkya Rahane and Kyle Jamieson to their squad for 2023.
