Before the commencement of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), cricket enthusiasts were taken aback as MS Dhoni, the iconic former captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), decided to relinquish his leadership role. Despite fervent hopes among fans to witness Dhoni’s astute captaincy for another season, he surprised many by passing the baton to opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad just a day before the tournament’s commencement last week.

Despite featuring in over 250 IPL matches, Dhoni has seldom bowled in the competition. Yet, with his recent stint in the nets, speculation arises that the veteran cricketer might finally grace the IPL with his bowling prowess, much to the delight of his admirers.

Dhoni’s net bowling sessions also hint at his commendable fitness levels. After grappling with a knee injury throughout IPL 2023, necessitating surgery, he has made a remarkable recovery and is poised to make a significant impact in IPL 2024. In the previous season, hampered by his injury, he faced only 57 deliveries, yet managed to amass an impressive tally of 104 runs.

Turning to the ongoing clash between CSK and GT, the latter emerged victorious in the toss and opted to field first. Both teams commenced their IPL 2024 campaigns with triumphs, with CSK prevailing over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the tournament opener and GT besting Mumbai Indians.

As of the latest update, CSK has accumulated 62 runs without loss in the sixth over, with Rachin Ravindra batting on 46 and Gaikwad on 13, setting the stage for an intriguing contest.
