Known for his brute power and the ability to clear boundaries with ease, MS Dhoni has long relied on heavy bats to execute his signature helicopter shots. However, in what appears to be a strategic adjustment ahead of IPL 2025, the Chennai Super Kings icon has reportedly opted for slightly lighter willows this season.

According to reports, a Meerut-based cricket equipment company has delivered four new bats to MS Dhoni, each weighing around 1,230 grams—approximately 10-20 grams lighter than his previous ones. During his prime, Dhoni was known to wield bats weighing between 1,250 and 1,300 grams, a rarity among modern players who typically prefer lighter blades for quicker strokeplay.

While his IPL 2025 training schedule remains uncertain, MS Dhoni has been preparing at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, utilizing the indoor facility and facing deliveries from a bowling machine. A Jharkhand State Cricket Association official also revealed that the veteran cricketer took part in a friendly tennis match, showcasing his fitness and reflexes ahead of the gruelling season.

 

Now 43, MS Dhoni has retired from all formats except the IPL, where he continues to be the heart and soul of CSK. Ahead of IPL 2024, he handed over the captaincy reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad, marking a transition in leadership. However, CSK endured a disappointing campaign, finishing fifth and missing out on the playoffs.

As IPL 2025 kicks off on March 22, CSK will begin their campaign with a blockbuster clash against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at Chepauk on March 23. With Dhoni’s legendary finishing skills still intact, fans will be eager to see if this subtle bat adjustment translates into another title-winning season for the five-time champions.
