MS Dhoni, the legendary former captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has transitioned into a new chapter with the team in the ongoing IPL 2024. Stepping down from the captaincy baton, he’s donned a fresh role within the five-time champions, who are currently enjoying a winning streak at the top of the IPL standings.
The 42-year-old Dhoni oversaw the reins of CSK for a remarkable tenure, leading them to numerous victories. This year, however, he passed on the captaincy mantle to the talented young batter, Ruturaj Gaikwad. The smooth transition seems to be working wonders for CSK, as they’ve secured convincing wins in both their opening matches. Their recent triumph came against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans, played at their home ground, the iconic M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.
During the Gujarat Titans match, a dropped catch by young wicket-keeper Rachin Ravindra sparked curiosity. Notably, Dhoni, the seasoned campaigner behind the stumps, remained unfazed by the incident. When questioned about his reaction in a post-match interview, Dhoni’s response highlighted his acceptance of his new role.

“There’s a new captain, ah!” MS Dhoni chuckled, acknowledging the shift in leadership. “The muscle memory is definitely there,” he admitted, referring to his years of experience guiding the team. “But I’m not someone who reacts excessively, especially when someone’s just starting out. I believe Rutu (Gaikwad) shares the same approach. It was entertaining to see Rachin chase the ball around the field,” Dhoni’s words, captured in a now-viral video, showcased his characteristic calmness and support for the young players.
“I don’t react a lot on the missed catches especially when the guy is having a debut and I feel Rutu is quite same just like me”💫🦁💛

CSK’s dominance under Gaikwad’s leadership is a promising sign for their title aspirations. Currently, they rest comfortably at the top of the table with four points from two matches. Their next challenge comes in the form of the Delhi Capitals, a clash scheduled for March 31st at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Before facing CSK, the Delhi Capitals will lock horns with the Rajasthan Royals on March 28th. Led by Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals had a shaky start to the tournament, losing their opening encounter against the Punjab Kings. However, they’ll be determined to bounce back and pose a strong challenge to CSK.
With Dhoni’s experience continuing to be a valuable asset and a new generation taking the reins, CSK’s journey in IPL 2024 promises to be an exciting spectacle for fans worldwide.
