Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni turned back the clock with a vintage finishing act against Lucknow Super Giants, guiding his team to their second win of the IPL 2025 season. The 43-year-old played a quickfire cameo, scoring an unbeaten 26 off just 11 balls, laced with four boundaries and a six, and was named Player of the Match for his efforts.

Before the game began at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Dhoni was seen interacting with one of the IPL’s newest innovations—a robotic camera dog. As the high-tech machine trotted up to him, Dhoni playfully picked it up and gently placed it down, unintentionally rendering it motionless. A staff member had to rush in to set the robot back on its feet as Dhoni walked away with a smile, unfazed as always.

Dhoni recently returned to the CSK captaincy after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the season due to an elbow injury, making Dhoni the oldest captain in IPL history. His comeback as captain got off to a shaky start with a heavy defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders, but CSK found redemption in Lucknow.

Interestingly, MS Dhoni seemed surprised by his Player of the Match honour. “Even today, I was like, ‘Why are they giving me the award?’ I thought Noor bowled really well,” he said, praising the Afghan spinner. He acknowledged the game-changing spells bowled by Noor and Ravindra Jadeja, calling them the real impact-makers.

It was then revealed to Dhoni that he hadn’t won a Player of the Match award since 2019. “That’s a long time back,” he quipped, grinning.
Despite the win, CSK still languish at the bottom of the points table with just four points. Their next big test will be a blockbuster clash against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, April 20.
