Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) recently underwent knee surgery after suffering an injury during the IPL tournament. The surgery took place at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai, performed by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the Director of the Orthopedic Department. This came just a day after Chennai Super Kings clinched the IPL Trophy on May 29.
Dr. Pardiwala is highly regarded for his expertise in arthroscopic surgery and has nearly 23 years of experience in the field. His previous patients include cricketer Rishabh Pant, who underwent knee surgery following a serious road accident. Dr. Pardiwala also leads the Center for Sports Medicine at Kokilaben Hospital and is a member of the ICC Medical Committee.
Throughout his career, Dr. Pardiwala has been involved in numerous complex surgeries related to osteoporosis, earning him recognition and honors such as the Isaacs John Joyce Award in 2009. He has treated several renowned Indian cricketers, including Yuvraj Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Sachin Tendulkar.

Dr. Pardiwala’s contributions extend beyond cricket. He is a member of the Indian Arthroscopy Association and has served on the editorial committee of esteemed journals like the American Journal of Sports Medicine. His research on osteoporosis has received international acclaim.

In addition to his work with cricketers, Dr. Pardiwala has also provided medical care for athletes from various sports boards. He has treated athletes like wrestler Sushil Kumar, boxer Vikas Krishnan, badminton player PV Sindhu, and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt. Dr. Pardiwala specializes in various types of surgeries, including ACL surgery and ligament reconstruction surgery for knee-related issues.

Amidst speculations that this could have been MS Dhoni’s final match before the start of the sixteenth season of the IPL, the discussions gained traction following Chennai Super Kings’ fifth IPL trophy win. However, Dhoni himself has dismissed these possibilities and affirmed that he will continue playing in the next season if his body allows. The final decision regarding Dhoni’s retirement from IPL rests with him, as stated by Chennai CEO Viswanathan.
