KKR’s bowlers have dominated the proceedings. Sunil Narine and Harshit Rana each claimed two wickets, dismantling CSK’s top and middle order. Varun Chakaravarthy also contributed crucial breakthroughs. CSK’s batting lineup failed to build partnerships, leading to their precarious position. From 59 for 2, they have lost their next six wickets for just 16 runs.

Ravichandran Ashwin came in ahead of MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and then departed without troubling much. CSK brought in Deepak Hooda as the Impact Player who scored a duck. And then MS Dhoni came at no. 9, only to get dismissed for just one run. He lasted just 4 deliveries and Sunil Narine cleaned him up.

MS Dhoni was struck in front by Sunil Narine, but a DRS review has caused some questions if the veteran was out. After being given out, Dhoni took the review straight away. At the DRS UltraEdge, there was a spike when the ball went past Dhoni’s bat. But the decision was upheld by the third umpire, who cited that the ball had no contact with the bat.

MS Dhoni’s dismissal may spark some questions, but the 3rd Umpire’s decision was completely right. There was indeed no contact of the bat and the CSK captain got outfoxed by Narine and was rightfully given the marching orders. What was the Spike All About? It was not a Spike in the Ultra Edge, it was just a Murmur.
In cricket, an “UltraEdge murmur” refers to the sound detected by the UltraEdge technology, which is a part of the Decision Review System (DRS). This technology uses sensitive microphones to capture the faintest sounds of a ball hitting a bat or pad.

A murmur is a continuous background sound, while a spike indicates a specific, sharp sound like a nick off the bat. Hence the minimal spike which was seen during the ball passing the bat was nothing but the sound wave of a continuous movement of the delivery.
