At the start of the season, Chennai Super Kings confirmed that MS Dhoni would be sidelined for a couple of weeks due to a calf strain. While skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad recently hinted that the veteran wicketkeeper-batter is nearing a return, reports suggest that Dhoni is still not match-fit and is unlikely to feature in the upcoming clash against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Despite his absence from match action, MS Dhoni has gradually resumed light training. Ahead of CSK’s home fixture, he had a brief net session under lights at Chepauk. However, he limited himself to facing throwdowns from the support staff, including batting coach Mike Hussey, rather than engaging in full-fledged practice.

During the session, MS Dhoni showed glimpses of his trademark power. While a short delivery struck the splice of his bat, anything pitched in his hitting arc was dispatched with authority. He powered a couple of shots towards the midwicket boundary and even launched one into the stands, reminding fans of his finishing prowess.

Notably, MS Dhoni has not resumed wicketkeeping duties yet, indicating that he is still easing his way back to full fitness. The 44-year-old has missed all four matches so far this season and has also stayed away from travelling with the squad for away fixtures.

For Chennai Super Kings, his return remains eagerly anticipated, but for now, caution appears to be the priority.
