In a moment that epitomised his humility and grace, MS Dhoni made a touching gesture towards young pacer Chetan Sakariya after Chennai Super Kings’ thrilling two-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on May 7, 2025. Following the conclusion of the game, Dhoni momentarily forgot to shake hands with Sakariya during the customary post-match greetings.

But true to his character, the CSK legend quickly realised the oversight, turned around mid-walk, and corrected his mistake with a handshake and a reassuring pat on the youngster’s back. The moment occurred shortly after Dhoni’s composed unbeaten knock of 17 off 18 balls guided CSK to a tense win in the final over.

As MS Dhoni and his partner Anshul Kamboj began the traditional handshakes, Dhoni spotted he had unintentionally skipped Sakariya. After shaking hands with a match official, Dhoni pointed out the miss to Kamboj and promptly walked back to greet Sakariya. The young KKR pacer was visibly moved, sporting a beaming smile as he shared the moment with one of the game’s greatest icons.

It wasn’t just a victory in numbers for CSK—it was one of pride and character. With no playoff hopes left, the Men in Yellow played with spirit and managed to spoil the party for playoff hopefuls KKR in their final home game. Dhoni’s calm finishing act came after CSK found themselves in early trouble, losing three wickets in the powerplay during a tricky 180-run chase.

Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad set up the win with a brilliant 4/31, stifling KKR’s strong batting line-up and restricting them to 179/6. In reply, the trio of Urvil Patel (31), Dewald Brevis (52), and Shivam Dube (45) steadied the ship before Dhoni calmly steered his side home in the tense final overs, fending off a late scare from KKR’s attack.

While the victory was a much-needed boost for CSK, it was Dhoni’s small yet powerful act of sportsmanship that captured the spirit of the game—reminding everyone why he continues to command respect across generations.
