After a comprehensive victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at home, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) are looking to carry that momentum into their upcoming IPL 2025 clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC). Ahead of the match, PBKS spin-bowling coach Sunil Joshi spoke to the media, touching on the team’s recent performance, unpredictable weather conditions, and the uncertainty around their next fixture.

Reflecting on the win against LSG, Sunil Joshi praised the collective effort of the squad and credited their pre-season preparation as a key factor in the team’s improved execution. “Of course, we felt happy about the way we played and the way we bowled,” Joshi said. “We had two camps here before the tournament began, and those sessions helped players adapt to the conditions early. That familiarity definitely worked in our favour.”

PBKS had earlier been denied a full opportunity in their clash against Kolkata Knight Riders due to rain, resulting in shared points—an outcome that may have implications in the tight playoff race. However, Joshi stressed the importance of focusing on what lies ahead rather than dwelling on uncontrollable factors.

“You can’t really go against nature,” he said. “What was supposed to happen has already happened. We can’t revisit that result. What we can do is concentrate on what’s in our control. So, our mindset is clear: one game at a time, and play good cricket.”

When asked about leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s continued excellence, Joshi offered high praise, calling him a “magician” who’s stayed resilient despite ups and downs.

“Yuzi has been incredibly consistent. He’s the highest wicket-taker in IPL history for a reason. Every time people question him, he bounces back stronger. His ability to outthink batters perhaps comes from his background in chess—he knows exactly what he’s doing out there,” Sunil Joshi said.

He also emphasized Chahal’s experience and composure under pressure, highlighting that he’s been bowling in high-stakes situations across the globe for nearly two decades.

Amid some uncertainty regarding their next match due to national security considerations in the region, Joshi confirmed that the team is fully aligned with the BCCI’s guidelines and will proceed accordingly. “We are following all protocols laid down by the BCCI. Whatever directions they give us, the management will act upon them without hesitation,” he assured.

PBKS will take on DC on Thursday, May 8, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, hoping to continue their resurgence and stay in the playoff hunt.
