Former Indian chief selector, MSK Prasad has weighed into the ongoing debate surrounding the Indian wicket-keeper batsmen, Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha. Pant managed to amass a century in the Pink-ball practice game but Saha played ahead of him the first Test, but only to register the scores of 9 and 4 runs in the first and second innings, respectively.

Also, considering that Pant has a century to his name in Australia and England, some of the cricketing pundits have opined that the youngster should replace his senior counterpart in the next 3 Tests of the series. Prasad faced the same question during his exclusive interview with YouTube channel Sports Today.

While the 45-year-old chose Pant ahead of Saha for the remaining Test matches against Australia, he added that Saha should continue to be in the side.

MSK Prasad elaborated, “When you keep in subcontinent conditions against quality spinners like Ashwin or even to an extent Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, you need that skill set which I feel Rishabh still doesn’t have. But when you play abroad your wicketkeeping skills are not as tested as it is here in subcontinent conditions.”

He further added, “There its comes like whoever bats better, yes, of course, he (Pant) has also taken 10 catches in an innings, of course he has gone through a tough period, his fitness levels had fallen down (during IPL 2020).So taking all these things into consideration, I feel that he should play ahead of Wriddhiman Saha in the remaining 3 Test matches. See, even if Rishabh Pant comes good with bat and he does with gloves also.”

Prasad was of the opinion that Saha should be in the squad, but in subcontinent conditions. He reckons that probably this is the new way of thinking.
