The Mumbai Indians (MI) have bolstered their squad ahead of the IPL 2025 Playoffs by signing three overseas replacements, with key players departing for national duties after their final league match. England’s Jonny Bairstow, pacer Richard Gleeson, and Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka have been brought in as substitutes for Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Corbin Bosch respectively.

Bairstow, a seasoned campaigner in IPL and international cricket, will join MI for INR 5.25 crore, stepping in for Will Jacks. The dynamic wicketkeeper-batter brings explosive batting and valuable experience to MI’s middle order. Richard Gleeson, the English fast bowler known for his sharp pace and death-over skills, replaces Ryan Rickelton at his base price of INR 1 crore.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s versatile batter Charith Asalanka fills in for Corbin Bosch, coming in at a reserve price of INR 75 lakh. These replacements will be available from the Playoffs stage—if MI manage to qualify.

Under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, MI have shown promise but find themselves in a tense qualification battle. With the league stage nearing its end, MI’s Playoff hopes rest on beating Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 62 on May 21. A loss would mean they not only need to win their final game but also hope for DC to lose theirs. Interestingly, both MI and DC wrap up their league campaigns against the already-qualified Punjab Kings.

If MI win both their remaining matches and results elsewhere go their way—particularly losses for RCB and PBKS—they could even secure a top-two finish. With just a few games left, the fight for the last Playoffs spot has intensified, setting the stage for a dramatic end to the league phase of IPL 2025.
