Initially dominant, Mumbai’s bowlers then faced significant pressure. Nicholas Pooran, with a blazing 75, dramatically shifted the momentum of the game. His aggressive batting, combined with KL Rahul’s steady 55, resurrected LSG’s innings at the Wankhede Stadium. The pair formed a formidable 109-run partnership, but the Mumbai Indians struck back thanks to the combined efforts of Nuwan Thushara and Piyush Chawla. Their efforts not only halted LSG’s progress but also achieved a team hat-trick.

In the 17th over, Nuwan Thushara dismissed Nicholas Pooran on the fifth ball. Pooran, attempting to clear the boundary, was caught by Suryakumar Yadav. On the following delivery, Thushara sent Arshad Khan back to the pavilion.

Arshad’s attempted loft resulted in a mistimed shot that Nehal Wadhera, after an initial fumble, managed to secure on the rebound. The next over saw Piyush Chawla striking immediately. He dismissed KL Rahul, who was aiming for a big sweep. The ball edged high and was comfortably caught by the fielder at short fine-leg, completing Mumbai Indians’ team hat-trick and bringing them back into the game.

Post-match, Nicholas Pooran reflected on his innings and his role in such high-pressure situations. He emphasized his consistent training and practice in hitting sixes, attributing his performance to his natural talent and dedication. Pooran expressed confidence in the score they posted and encouraged his bowlers to enjoy their performance.

“Similar situation to ones I’ve been in over the years. I’ve been training a lot and practicing hitting a lot of sixes. Blessed that I’m talented in that. I always enjoy myself and want to be the best version of myself. Need to understand where the game is going and how everyone else is playing as well. Today is all about enjoying and having fun, not much to tell the bowlers. It’s about executing our plans. I’d very much want this to be a good score,” he concluded.

The game promises further excitement as Mumbai Indians look to chase down the target set by Lucknow Super Giants.
