After beating Zimbabwe in the second and final Test of the series on Thursday and drew the Test series by 1-1, Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim claimed that they badly need this.
Bangladesh came at Dhaka to play the second Test after losing the first Test by 151 runs at Sylhet. After the initial batting collapse, Mushfiqur Rahim’s brilliant double-ton and Mominul Haque’s impressive 161 runs helped the hosts Bangladesh to score 522/7 (decl.).

In reply, Zimbabwe fought hard and managed to score 304 runs before getting bundled out, thanks to Brendan Taylor’s (110) brilliant century and the opener Brian Chari (53) & Peter Moor’s (83) half-centuries.
In the second innings, Bangladesh once again had a poor start but Mohammad Mithun and the skipper Mahmudullah rescued the team and set a massive target for the visitors. While Mithun scored 67 runs, Mahmudullah (101*) completed his second Test century and soon he declared the innings on 224/6 with 443 runs target.
Brendan Taylor (106*) scored another century in the fourth innings of the Test match but didn’t get enough support from the other batsmen and they were bundled out for 224 runs as Bangladesh won by 218 runs.
After winning the Test match, the Player of the Match award winner Rahim said, “We badly needed this. They played well in the first Test and even in this Test. I knew that it was really important to bat well in the first innings. All the bowlers bowled really well. Our records at home – we have dominated across all formats. The spinners have been amazing. It’s really great, hopefully they continue the good work.”

On the other hand, Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah feels very happy with this victory and credited everyone for this result. Despite scoring a brilliant century in the second innings, Mahmudullah believes that he still needs to prove himself.
The Bangladesh captain said, “Thanks to the boys for performing well, they showed the character. We are still working hard and we need to look at that as well. Credit goes to Mushy and Mominul [Haque], the way they batted. Miraz scored some good runs. Taijul was excellent throughout the innings. I was struggling a bit. I still need to prove a bit more for myself as well as for my team. I would like to thank the crowd. Thank you all.”

Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam won the Player of the Series award after picking up a total of 18 wickets in this Test series.
He said after the match, “It is always good to perform well, and especially when you do it in your own country. The wicket (in Sylhet) didn’t look very helpful at first sight. Today, we were confident of getting early wickets. The Mirpur pitch can be played out for the first one or two overs, and we were confident of getting their wickets. Miraz’s support has been invaluable.”
