Former Indian wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia feels that India’s newly appointed skipper Virat Kohli got the help of the inputs from his predecessor MS Dhoni during his short tenure as the captain. Kohli has got a perfect guidance of MSD during the early days of captaincy.
The two giants of Indian Cricket share a great chemistry since Dhoni’s announcement of stepping down as captain. Even during the recently concluded ODI series In the ongoing series against Australia, Dhoni was seen setting the field and guiding the bowlers with proper line and length while Virat offered his services by fielding in the all-important long on and deep positions during the death overs.
During crunch situation, Kohli can’t get a better advisor then Dhoni and due to the same reason, the Kohli-Dhoni duo has accumulated a lot of praise even from Australians like Brad Hogg, Michael Clarke, and Brett Lee.
During an interview with Rediff.com, Mongia said that old horse like Dhoni has still a long way to go. He said, “Kohli has benefited immensely from Dhoni’s advice and tips from behind the stumps. Age is only a number in Dhoni’s case. He is still a great finisher, still a great match-winner. He knows how to take the situation in his hand in adversity, especially when there is a chase on. There really is no reason why he shouldn’t feature in the Indian team for the 2019 World Cup.”
