In one of the most dramatic finishes of IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals edged past Rajasthan Royals in a nerve-wracking Super Over to return to winning ways. Chasing 12 in the decider, DC got over the line in just four deliveries, thanks to the calm heads of KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs. Earlier, Rajasthan Royals managed 11 runs in their Super Over against Mitchell Starc, but the real story unfolded bizarrely.

DC registered a super over win against RR

Riyan Parag was run out on a Free Hit after a mix-up with Shimron Hetmyer, and soon after, Yashasvi Jaiswal was also dismissed similarly, leaving RR in tatters at the end of their five balls. In DC’s reply, Rahul began with a brace and then creamed a four to ease the pressure. Stubbs then sealed the win with a six, as DC claimed two valuable points in the tournament.

Before the Super Over chaos, the Rajasthan Royals had looked solid in their chase of 189. The innings began with a flourish, with Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal adding 61 for the opening stand. But just as things were cruising, Samson retired hurt on 31, clutching his side. Riyan Parag came in at No.3 but failed to make a mark, clean bowled by Axar Patel for just 8.

Jaiswal carried on and notched up his third fifty of the season before Kuldeep Yadav got him for 51. Nitish Rana stepped up with a vital 51, and his partnerships with Jaiswal and later Dhruv Jurel helped RR inch closer. However, needing 9 off the final over, Mitchell Starc showed all his experience, giving away only 8 runs and denying RR a regulation win.

After being put in to bat, Delhi had posted a challenging 188/5 earlier. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel gave them a blazing start, but RR struck back quickly. Jofra Archer dismissed Fraser-McGurk, and a run out sent Karun Nair back for a duck.

KL Rahul (38) and Porel (49) stitched a steady stand before falling in quick succession. Axar Patel’s explosive 38 off just 14 balls and Stubbs’ unbeaten 38 off 18 proved vital as Delhi reached a defendable total.

Twitter exploded after the game, especially with reactions to Parag’s Free Hit dismissal and the Super Over drama that followed.
