Over eight months after retiring from international cricket, legendary offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin has officially ended his IPL career. In a heartfelt social media post, Ashwin revealed that while his IPL journey is over, he plans to explore opportunities in other global leagues, signalling that his competitive cricket days are far from over.

“Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” Ashwin wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He expressed gratitude to the franchises he represented, as well as the IPL and BCCI, for the support and memories over the years. “Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the @IPL and the @BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me,” Ashwin added.

Ravichandran Ashwin began and concluded his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings, while also turning out for Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Rising Pune Supergiants, and Kings XI Punjab.

Across 221 IPL matches, he claimed 187 wickets at an average of 30.22, with best bowling figures of 4/34. With the bat, Ashwin accumulated 833 runs at an average of 13.02, including a top score of 50. His retirement marks the end of a significant chapter in IPL history, but Ashwin’s journey in cricket is set to continue as he looks toward new challenges in leagues worldwide.
