On Thursday morning, the 29-year-old left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem created a history by achieving the best bowling figure record in a List A match history. For his brilliant achievement, Nadeem credited his selection as a net bowler to help the Indian batsmen in Dubai ahead of the Asia Cup.

In the Elite Group C match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy between Rajasthan and Jharkhand at Chennai, the Jharkhand left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem bagged eight wickets by conceding just 10 runs in his 10-over quota as his bowling figure was 10-4-10-8.

He dismissed first eight opposition batsmen and was very close to becoming the first ever 10-wicket haul bowler in the List A cricket history as his last two overs went wicketless.

With that impressive bowling figure, Nadeem breaks the previous List A best bowling record of 8/15 by Delhi left-arm spinner Rahul Sanghvi against Himachal Pradesh in 1997/98.

After that performance, Nadeem said according to Sportstarlive, “I was a net bowler helping the Indian batsmen in Dubai ahead of the Asia Cup. I had to stick to a tight line and length. Lengthy sessions helped me to master them and I guess that has helped me here.

“The wicket had some grip on it. Having said that, there was also less room for error. I used some variety in my bowling and had many tricks up my sleeve.”

Nadeem didn’t know about the List A best bowling record for a long time. However, he is happy now to achieve that record.

Nadeem said, “I was oblivious. I was happy that I had put my team in a position of strength in the match. I was happy that I was able to contribute my bit.”

The 29-year-old Nadeem still dreams to play for the Indian cricket team and to fulfil that he wants to take wickets consistently.

The left-arm spinner said, “All I have to do is keep taking wickets. Everything else will fall into place eventually.”
