Nicholas Pooran had the perfect response to Mohammed Siraj’s on-field sledging during a high-scoring encounter between the Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. What began as a routine overtook into a fiery exchange, with Pooran letting his bat do the talking.

The incident occurred in the 16th over of the innings. Gujarat Titans had turned to Siraj for a breakthrough as Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran were in destructive form. Marsh was nearing his century at 89, while Pooran was batting on 29, looking increasingly dangerous. Siraj, who had bowled a stellar spell during the powerplay—conceding only 17 runs from his first three overs—was tasked with the difficult job of stemming the run flow.

However, things unravelled quickly for the Indian pacer. Pooran began the over with a deft scoop for four on the third delivery. Frustrated after conceding a boundary and following it up with a wide, Siraj decided to take the verbal route, walking up to Pooran and exchanging words. It was an unusual display from the usually composed Siraj, who seemed rattled by the pressure and the scoreboard.

Pooran, to his credit, remained calm and composed. He didn’t react, instead choosing to walk away and have a quick word with Marsh. The umpires swiftly intervened to defuse the situation before it escalated. But Pooran wasn’t done. Letting his bat speak louder than any words, he responded emphatically on the final two deliveries—hammering Siraj for a six and then a four, sending a strong message and having the last laugh.

In the end, Siraj’s final over proved costly, going for 20 runs and undoing his earlier economical effort. Pooran’s calm demeanor under pressure and explosive finish highlighted his growing maturity and match awareness.
