After winning the toss, RR skipper, Sanju Samson decided to bowl first citing the unpredictability of a new pitch. As expected, both the teams made no changes to their respective playing XIs. RCB suffered an early blow as they lost the wicket of Virat Kohli early in the second over itself. This was followed by an important partnership between Rajat Patidar and Faf du Plessis.

However, Faf du Plessis went back dismissed for 25 from 27 balls, and then, Glenn Maxwell walked out to bat. Maxwell enjoys batting against spinners is a well-known fact and he did just that as he smashed boundaries in the over of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal to the cleaners. But Glenn Maxwell’s cameo was cut short by some brilliance in the field.

On the final ball of the thirteenth over, Trent Boult bowled a short ball to Maxwell who tried to hit him over fine-leg. But he failed to find good timing on the ball and it resulted in Obed McCoy taking a spectacular flying catch to end his stay. During his innings, Glenn Maxwell scored 24 from 13 balls which included 2 sixes and 1 boundary.
