The Barabati Stadium in Cuttack witnessed a jubilant night for Team India as they secured their 12th ODI series victory against England. However, the match wasn’t without its share of disruptions. A major setback occurred when one of the six floodlight towers malfunctioned, leading to a delay of over 30 minutes. At the time of the stoppage, India was comfortably placed at 48/0 in 6.1 overs.

After the incident, Odisha’s Director of Sports, Siddhartha Das, issued a show-cause notice to the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), seeking an explanation for the lapse. It asked OCA to go deep into the cause, find responsible parties, and suggest future measures to be taken to avoid such incidents in the future.

“The Odisha Cricket Association is hereby directed to submit a detailed explanation for the cause of the disruption, identify the persons/agencies responsible and outline measures taken to prevent similar incidents,” the notice read.

It further said that the findings must be submitted within 10 days, saying it was inconveniencing the players and spectators due to the delay. The notice was to OCA secretary Sanjay Behera and CEO Subrata Behera, who is an ex-cricketer with a career in first-class and List A matches.
Despite the early shock, the match went India’s way. Chasing the target of 304 set by England, Rohit Sharma gave a masterclass, smashing 119 off 90 balls, with 12 fours and seven sixes. His stellar knock, combined with steady contributions from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, ensured India’s four-wicket victory.
