McLaren’s rising Formula 1 star Oscar Piastri joined the chorus of admiration for Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, after his stunning IPL hundred against Gujarat Titans on April 28. The 14-year-old, already making waves as the youngest debutant in the tournament’s history, etched his name into the record books by slamming a century in just 35 balls — the second-fastest in IPL history.

Piastri, known to be a follower of the IPL, took to Instagram to express his amazement. Sharing the IPL’s reel of Suryavanshi’s heroics, the Australian posted the number “14” alongside a clapping emoji, acknowledging the sheer brilliance of the young prodigy. It’s a remarkable moment of crossover appreciation between motorsport and cricket — two fiercely followed sports.

Both Piastri and Suryavanshi have had standout years in their respective arenas. While the McLaren driver has stormed ahead in the F1 season with three wins in five races, sitting atop the leaderboard heading into the Miami Grand Prix, Suryavanshi has made an explosive start in IPL 2025. Brought in after an injury to Sanju Samson, he has already accumulated 151 runs in three matches, showcasing maturity beyond his years.

Speaking after his record knock, Suryavanshi made it clear that his ambitions stretch far beyond franchise cricket. “Now I have to push even harder — work more, perform more, until I reach that level where I can represent India. I’ll keep going until I get there,” the young opener said, brimming with focus and determination.
