Former South Africa skipper Shaun Pollock believes Delhi Capitals’ recent slump in form is closely tied to their unsettled and inconsistent batting lineup. Following Delhi’s 14-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders, Pollock voiced his concern over the lack of steady performers in DC’s top order. Speaking on Cricbuzz, he emphasised the need for at least three batters to deliver consistently if Delhi want to remain in playoff contention.

Delhi have now lost three of their last four matches, and their return to the Arun Jaitley Stadium hasn’t helped reverse their fortunes. They’ve managed just one win at home – a thrilling Super Over victory against Rajasthan Royals, powered by a stunning final over from Mitchell Starc.

Former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, also on the Cricbuzz panel, echoed similar sentiments. “They had four wins in a row and looked unstoppable. But in T20 cricket, a couple of defeats and suddenly things unravel. Everyone’s under the microscope,” Adam Gilchrist observed.

Pollock went further, pointing out how successful franchises this season have benefited from top-order stability. He highlighted the consistent contributions of players like Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill for the Gujarat Titans, who have anchored their innings repeatedly.

“They’ve shown flashes of brilliance,” Shaun Pollock noted of DC’s batters. “But cameos won’t win you matches consistently. The teams at the top have guys who score big in every other game. Look at Suryakumar Yadav – he hasn’t gone below 20 too often. That’s the sort of regularity you need.”

He added that KL Rahul remains the key man for DC, while Faf du Plessis’s return to form is a bonus. “But they need more than just one or two batters standing up. Three or four guys must take charge and deliver each game,” Pollock stressed.

Despite the hiccups, Delhi Capitals sit at fourth on the table with 12 points from 10 games, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
