When Sanju Samson was controversially given out by the on-field umpires, emotions ran high for Parth Jindal, chairman and co-owner of Delhi Capitals. The dismissal of Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper sparked a massive debate, casting doubts on the umpiring standards in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Leading RR’s challenging chase of 222 against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Samson was batting valiantly on 86 when he pulled a delivery from Mukesh Kumar, only to be caught by Shai Hope near the long-off rope.
Despite TV replays failing to provide a definitive view on whether the catch was clean, the benefit of the doubt went in favor of the hosts, resulting in Samson’s dismissal. Despite a heated discussion with the umpires, Samson had to begrudgingly leave the field.
