Pat Cummins produced a game-changing spell right after lunch on Day 2 of the World Test Championship Final 2025 at Lord’s, turning the tide firmly in Australia’s favour. Returning to the attack post-lunch, the Australian skipper needed just two overs to create chaos in the South African camp—striking twice in the 52nd over.

The first breakthrough came on the third ball of the over. Kyle Verreynne, who had shown some resistance, was undone by a classic Cummins nip-backer that cut in sharply off the seam. Verreynne, caught shuffling across his stumps, missed his flick, and was hit plumb in front.

Pat Cummins went up in appeal, and though a slight collision with the batter occurred, the decision went to DRS. Three reds on the screen confirmed Verreynne’s fate, and Cummins celebrated with a mighty roar.

Just three balls later, Cummins struck again. This time, it was Marco Jansen who fell into the trap. After a couple of probing deliveries outside off, Jansen was tempted to push forward. The ball caught the outer part of his bat and looped back straight to Cummins, who held onto the return catch with ease. It was the 18th instance in his career where Cummins claimed two wickets in the same over—a testament to his ability to change games in a flash.

South Africa folded for just 138, with Cummins ending with figures of 6 wickets and reaching the milestone of 300 Test scalps. With Australia leading by 74 runs and plenty of time left, Cummins has put his side in pole position to lift the coveted WTC mace.
