SunRisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan played a crucial role behind the stumps as SRH removed Gujarat Titans star Jos Buttler early during their high-stakes IPL 2026 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 12. Kishan’s sharp awareness and confidence convinced captain Pat Cummins to opt for a successful DRS review, leading to Buttler’s dismissal for just seven runs off 11 deliveries.

The breakthrough came in the final over of the powerplay when SRH pacer Praful Hinge delivered a fuller ball drifting down the leg side. Buttler attempted an audacious scoop shot but managed only a faint edge through to Kishan. While the on-field umpire initially remained unmoved, Kishan was immediately confident there was a nick.

Hinge appeared uncertain at first, but Kishan persisted and eventually persuaded Cummins to challenge the decision. UltraEdge later confirmed a slight edge before the ball carried safely into the wicketkeeper’s gloves, handing SRH a massive wicket at a critical stage of the innings.

The dismissal continued a difficult run for Buttler, who had also struggled in his previous outing against the Rajasthan Royals, where he scored only 13 runs. Despite the lean patch, the England batter remains one of the Gujarat Titans’ top performers this season, having scored 355 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 148.53, including two half-centuries.

Praful Hinge provided SRH with an ideal start by dismissing both GT captain Shubman Gill and Buttler inside the powerplay. His early breakthroughs helped Hyderabad tighten its grip on a contest carrying huge playoff implications.

At the time of writing, the Gujarat Titans were 123/3 after 16 overs, with Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar attempting to rebuild the innings.

The match holds major significance in the IPL 2026 points table. SunRisers Hyderabad entered the contest in second place with seven wins from 11 matches, level on points with Royal Challengers Bengaluru but behind on net run rate. Gujarat Titans also came into the game with identical points, making this clash crucial in the race for the top spot and a potential top-two finish.
