Dashing Australian pacer Pat Cummins is willing to follow the footmarks of Mitchell Johnson in the upcoming Ashes series Down Under.

Johnson was the wrecker in chief in 2013-14 Ashes in Australia with his stunning 37 wickets in five matches, which forced England to swallow a tough pill of 5-0 drubbing. The horror of that tour is still so fresh in England’ mind, thus they are second favorites for this tour.

Australia is featuring a star studded pace battery, where the main focus will be on Mitchell Starc, who has announced his arrival with two stunning hat-tricks in a Sheffield Shield match for New South Wales. However, Cummins wants to grab all the headlines with his bowling in the upcoming series.

“We saw what Mitchell Johnson did last Ashes series here – it would be a role I would love to play,” said Cummins. “As a fast bowler, it’s (about) getting in their face and being relentless in everything we do. I just can’t wait to get out there.”

The injury-prone bowler made a dream Test debut way back in 2011, being an 18-year-old, on South African soil. However, his cricketing journey has been full of injuries, which prevented him from playing on several big occasions. Amidst, he is all in readiness to play his first Test on home soil, also this will be his first Ashes Test as well.

“As a kid growing up, you watch a lot of Test cricket on TV. To be in that position where I might play in one, I’m pumped. It certainly felt a long way away for a while. I was pretty young when I first started playing. It all happened really quickly and didn’t give me a chance to stand back and realise what I was actually doing,” the 24-year-old added.

With James Pattinson and Nathan Coulter-Nile are injured and ruled out of Ashes, the burden has been increased on his shoulders to bowl well in the Ashes. He concluded while saying “I feel like I’m in the best position I can be, but we’ll have to wait and see – there’s no guarantees.”

The first Test of Ashes will commence from November 23 in Brisbane.
