Royal Challengers Bengaluru produced another sharp fielding display in IPL 2026, with Phil Salt emerging as the standout once again after taking a brilliant catch to dismiss Rishabh Pant in the death overs. The LSG captain had returned to give his side a fighting chance, but Salt’s athletic effort cut short the comeback and underlined RCB’s growing sharpness in the field.

RCB’s bowling unit has been getting excellent support from its fielders throughout the season. The experienced trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and Krunal Pandya have brought control and discipline, while younger options such as Suyash and Rasikh Dar have added energy and accuracy. What has made the difference, though, is the level of commitment in the ring and on the boundary line.
Unlike several other teams, RCB have rarely been sloppy in the field and have consistently converted half-chances into match-turning moments. Phil Salt has been at the heart of that effort. Earlier in the tournament, he had already taken a stunning catch at the same venue to dismiss Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Ishan Kishan.

Against LSG, he repeated the act by covering excellent ground and diving forward to remove Pant off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling. The wicket came just as Pant was trying to settle in, but he ended up departing without making much of an impact.

Tim David also played his part with a superb catch that gave Bhuvneshwar another breakthrough. George Linde, the new batter, edged one towards backward point, and although David was stationed inside the circle, he reacted quickly enough to judge the ball, run back and hold on close to the boundary rope. It was a superb piece of awareness and athleticism.

Once the fielders backed up the bowlers so well, Bhuvneshwar took full control. He was once again precise with his yorkers and eventually delivered the perfect one to clean up Mohammad Shami on the very next ball. Despite not generating express pace, the veteran pacer has nailed his lengths better than most death-overs bowlers in the competition.
LSG were eventually restricted to a modest 147, a total that leaves Phil Salt and RCB well placed to chase down comfortably.
