Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Prabhsimran Singh, on Wednesday (May 3), gave the testimony of great sportsmanship as he decided to walk off the field without waiting for the umpire’s decision in the ongoing game against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the PCA stadium in Mohali in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first.
And the five-time champions made a solid start with the ball as Arshad Khan dismissed Prabhsimran Singh for just 9 runs in the second over of the match. Things, however, could have been very different, had the opener decided to wait for the umpire’s decision. On the third ball of the second over, Arshad bowled a wide delivery outside off stump and Prabhsimran Singh played a cut shot.

However, Prabhsimran Singh failed to make good contact with the ball and ended up edging the ball behind the stumps where Ishan Kishan made no mistake in completing an easy catch. Arshad appealed for a caught behind appeal straightaway while other Mumbai Indians players were already celebrating but the umpire surprisingly remained unmoved. And what followed thereafter was absolutely heartwarming.
Prabhsimran Singh knew that he had edged the ball and immediately started walking off the field without waiting for the umpire’s decision. In the meantime, Arshad was heard expressQing his displeasure over the umpire’s decision, saying: “Ungli nahi utha raha hai, itna bada aawaz aaya (He’s not raising the finger despite such a loud sound).”

The other Mumbai players were surprised too with the umpire’s decision before they started celebrating after seeing Prabhsimran walking off. Talking about the game, Punjab Kings were on 145 for 3 after 15 overs while writing this report. Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma were in the middle for the hosts, batting on 44 and 24 runs respectively.
