As part of the celebration, cricket legends and prominent Mumbai players will come together on January 19 to honour the stadium’s rich history. Among them is former U-19 World Cup-winning captain and opening batter Prithvi Shaw, who fondly shared his earliest memory of the Wankhede Stadium—the 2011 World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka. “My first memory that I remember, and it’s for the rest of my life, was when I came here to watch the 2011 World Cup final. I was 11 at that time; Arjun Tendulkar and I sat here and watched the game live. I still remember the moment when we lifted the World Cup. What an experience. That was my first time at Wankhede,” Prithvi Shaw said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Reflecting on the significance of the anniversary, Prithvi Shaw added, “As kids, we always dreamed about playing at Wankhede Stadium. Now, we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mumbai Cricket Association. I think everyone should join the celebrations. It’s for all the people of Mumbai. Please come on January 19 and let’s have a big celebration.”
