Priya Prakash Varrier has become the most talked about person on the internet in no time. A wink and a shy but mischievous smile by Malayalam actress Priya in a 28-second clip from a film song have turned the 18-year-old into an overnight internet sensation.

She was an unknown face to everyone until the last Saturday morning but now everyone knows her and she has become ‘unofficial national crush’ in India. On Instagram, she has got 2.5 million followers and got a blue tick while her official Facebook page is also verified.

Priya’s video song “Manikya malaraya poovi” — a song from her forthcoming Malayalam film debut “Oru Adaar Love” — has, in her own words, become a “national trend” on social media. The song was launched online on February 9. It garnered almost 10,000,000 views on YouTube until Tuesday evening.

However, recently she revealed that she loves watching cricket during her interview with IndiaTV and named Mahendra Singh Dhoni as her favorite cricketer. She is the latest addition to Dhoni’s list of admirers and said: “Dhoni is my favorite cricketer.”

There’s little doubt over the fact that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most-admired cricketers around. Dhoni, who is the only captain to win all three ICC trophies (World T20, World Cup, and Champions Trophy), may no longer be leading the Indian cricket team but he continues to command respect and receive love from millions of fans in India and across the globe.

Priya’s debut film, releasing next month, is written and directed by Omar Lulu, and produced by Ousepachan Vaalakuzhy under the banner of Ousepachan Movie House. It stars a bunch of newcomers and has music by Shaan Rahman.
