PSL 2019 draft: Steven Smith, AB de Villiers are ready to make their PSL debut

The player draft for the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL 2019) held on Tuesday (November 20) in Islamabad. A total of 663 players, including both Pakistan and overseas players, were available in the draft in six different categories and six teams were available to pick them.

The PSL 2019 has been scheduled to be played between February 14 and March 17, 2019. A total of six teams will participate in that competition and these are the defending champions Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators and the Sixth Team (formerly known as Multan Sultans).

Just recently a few days ago, Multan Sultans’ franchise agreement has been terminated with Schon Properties Broker LLC after they have failed to pay its annual fee of the US $5.2 million. Since then, the team has been known as the Sixth Team until the team get a new rights holder.

Before this draft, the teams had an opportunity to retain maximum their ten players from the last season. Islamabad United retained ten players while Quetta Gladiators retained their nine players and other four teams retained their eight players.

According to the PSL rules, each team can have a maximum of 16 players in the squad and in addition, each of the team can pick up four more players from the Supplement category. In the players’ draft, every team completed their squads by picking up from different categories.
