There is no doubt regarding the fact that Cheteshwar Pujara is one of the best Test cricketers in the current pool of players. However, he has also played five ODIs for India and he reckons that it will be beneficial for the Indian team that most of the players have experience of playing in England before. He also expressed that the men in blue have quite a balanced squad but the lack of spin on offer in England is a cause of worry for him.

In the Indian team, there are three spinners, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. But with the flat pitches in England not assisting spinners as much as they would like, Pujara wonders if the Indian team can get enough wickets to stop the flow of runs.

During the sidelines of CEAT awards in Mumbai, Pujara said, “India has a balanced squad but the only concern for India is the lack of spin which will not help our spinners so India will have to figure out a way to pick wickets. It is important to pick wickets and get teams all out, especially in this format, because if you don’t start picking wickets ultimately you will concede too many runs. So I think our bowling will be the key when we play on flat wickets.”

Even before the schedule of the tournament was finalized, the biggest World Cup clash is India vs Pakistan game and it will be played on June 16 in Manchester and Pujara also thinks the Men in Blue need to win this one.

Pujara said, “The match against Pakistan is important but it is also important that we do not give too much attention to only one game. India needs to win most of their games in order to keep qualifying for the next round.”

As for himself, the batsman wants to play the limited-overs game for India. Pujara played his last ODI against Bangladesh five years ago and has also not been able to bag contracts in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he reckons that his consistency will help him to feature in the limited-over squad as well.
