The much-awaited Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 finally got commenced underway on Saturday with the game between South Africa and Australia. Australia won the toss and asked the Proteas to bat first only to get off to a fantastic start thanks to their bowlers who struck regularly in the powerplay.
While most of the wickets were proper, South Africa opener Quinton de Kock found a unique way of getting out in the 5th over of the innings. The Proteas were already in trouble having lost Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen early in the innings and needed De Kock to make an impact.

With not a lot of runs on the scoreboard, the pressure was mounting. In a bid to churn out a boundary off the first ball of the fifth over, Quinton de Kock decided to play a shuffle shot and paddle the ball over a short fine leg. Instead, the ball lobbed off his thigh pad, hung in the air, and bounced onto his stumps.
De Kock lost sight of the ball and was rather looking to steal a single only to haplessly see himself getting out. He scored only 7 runs off 12 balls. Here is the video of the dismissal:
South Africa came into the World Cup having won nine out of the last 10 T20Is. They were confident enough to perform well. It reflected in their warm-up matches as well as they defeated Afghanistan and Pakistan with Van der Dussen smashing a stunning century in the steep-chase against the Men in Green.

However, the man in form was dismissed cheaply and South Africa will be looking at their middle-order to post a decent total on the board. It also remains to be seen, if the pitch gets slow with the sun beating down in the middle with this being an afternoon game.
