Ramiz Raja Reacts’ on Akmal’s 3 Year Ban

On Monday, Pakistan cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja reacted angrily on Umar Akmal’s ban. Pakistan Cricket Board’s Disciplinary Panel handed a three-year ban from all forms of cricket to Umar Akmal. Umar Akmal was charged of corruption was charged with violation of the rules. Citing to the ban of Umar Akmal, Ramiz Raja has urged authorities to send such cricketers behind bars who bring shame to the country and the game.

Ramiz Raja took to social media platform Twitter and expressed his frustration on the same. In his tweet, Raja referred to Akmal as a ”waste of talent”. The former cricketer also urged the PCB to pass a legislative law against corruption.

“So Umar Akmal officially makes it to the list of idiots! Banned for 3 years. What a waste of talent! It’s high time that Pakistan moved towards passing a legislative law against match-fixing. Behind bars is where such jack a***s belong! Otherwise brave for more!!” Raja commented.

On 20 March, PCB had charged Akmal with two breaches of its anti-corruption code. On Monday, Umar Akmal was found guilty of corruption charges. The PCB Anti-Corruption officials had charged Umar within two separate cases of not reporting an approach made to him to spot fix matches in the 5th season of the Pakistan Super League.

Umar Akmal has been at the international stage for over a decade now representing Pakistan for 11 years. However, Akmal never lived up to the expectations due to disciplinary problems and off-field issues.

Umar Akmal and his brother Kamran both have had the privilege of playing cricket for their nation. However, Umar Akmal played with less regularity in the Green jersey compared to his brother. Umar played 121 ODIs, 16 Tests, and 84 T20Is. The 29-year -old player last donned the national jersey in October 2019.
