Former Indian coach, Ravi Shastri has claimed that India is due for an ICC trophy and urged the fans needs to show some patience with the team as he feels that titles would start to come in. India will be playing in two major ICC events this year. They have sealed their place in the World Test Championship final for the second consecutive time and will take on Australia at the Oval in June.
After that, the attention will switch to the ODI World Cup, where India will be the host of the tournament later this year. The Indian team last won an ICC event in 2013 when they lifted the Champions Trophy in England. Since then, India has had to seal an ICC trophy despite reaching the business end of tournaments in the past few years. However, Shastri reckons it’s only a matter of time before they win a title.

Speaking to Sportsyaari, as quoted by Hindustan Times, the former coach said that India deserves to win an ICC event and urged the fans to be patient with the team.
Shastri pointed out the examples of Sachin Tendulkar and Lionel Messi and how they had to wait to win World Cup wins during their phenomenal careers. Shastri predicted that it would rain trophies once India is able to break their jinx in ICC tournaments.

Ravi Shastri opined, “I think India are due. They have been consistent – they reached finals, semi-finals on a regular basis. Look at Sachin Tendulkar. He had to play six World Cups to win one ICC trophy. 6 World Cups means 24 years. And on his last World Cup, he won. Look at Lionel Messi. Classic example that is. I mean how long he has been playing. And when he started winning, he won the Copa America, and the the World Cup and scored in the final as well. So you have to wait.”
